Will Wet Books Freeze Dry?

31 Jan, 2017

Back in 1996, we posted an article by Doug Reade, owner of Reade Books Restoration, a full-service firm in Seattle, Washington who is well known for being able to save flood-damaged books if processed in time (putting damaged books in a frozen state before mold growth occurs).

This got Bryan thinking, so he posed the question: Will Wet Books Freeze Dry? Can wet books be restored with the freeze dry process?

In this video, EpicenterBryan used our Harvest Right home freeze dryer to try to salvage some books that he intentionally water logged (similar to what might be found in a flooded basement).

Did it work? Not so well...

Doug's original post from 1996 can be seen here on this blog post: After Disaster Strikes: Drying Wet Books and Papers.
