We had a special request from one of our EpicenterBryan YouTube Channel subscribers: Will Twinkies freeze dry? So, we freeze dried a batch of Twinkies, along with a couple trays of blueberries, and some ice cream sandwiches in our Harvest Right Freeze Dryer. Here's what happened...
This batch took the most amount of time we have seen so far: 51 hours.
We also discovered that the smallest blueberries on the bottom shelf were not quite done, but the larger ones were. Perhaps Bryan's hammer method may not have cracked the small berries. We also found ice touching (or nearly touching) the heater for the bottom tray. Bryan is looking into putting ice shields on each side of the bottom trays in the future when the batch contains items with high liquid content.
What will we come up with next? Perhaps finding out if wet books can be brought back to life using the freeze dry method? (Hint Hint)
