Q: What is the big deal about TheEpicenter.com being a "Stocking Distributor"?

A: Other people on the web who sell this product may not have physical stock on hand like we do. They rely on having the product separately drop-shipped to you directly from the manufacturer. Q: What is the difference between what is called a #10 and a #2-1/2 size can?

A: Shown in this photo is a #10 can on the left, and a #2-1/2 (also called a #2.5 can) on the right.

The large size can, called a #10, is about the size of a 1 gallon paint can. Its the most widely used size for delivering large amounts of product to food service users, like restaurants. If you have ever been to a Costco Warehouse and have seen a massively huge can of Tomatoes, that is a #10 can. The smaller can in the photo is basically 1/4 the size of the #10 can. The industry calls it a #2-1/2 can size. It is larger than most cans you find at your local super market.

Q: What is the shelf life of Gormet Reserves preparedness foods?  A: It is impossible to give a definitive answer without knowing how the foods are stored and in what containers. Extended shelf life is primarily affected by oxygen, fat, moisture, heat and time - the lower the values the better. Excessive quantities of these elements will cause loss of nutritional value, off flavors, odors, and rancidity. Handling and physical damage must also be kept to a minimum. Damage to can seams and excessive rust must be avoided. Gourmet Reserves products are sealed in heavy gauge metal cans with an oxygen absorber added. Be sure to observe storage tips for best results. Provided that proper storage procedures have been followed, we can offer general guidelines as to the shelf life expectations of Gourmet Reserves foods. Once the foods leave our warehouse we have no control over storage conditions. So please be conscientious and avoid high heat - the cooler the better (without freezing). Proper Food Storage Tips It is crucial that you store food reserves properly. Please follow the following recommendations: Avoid exposure to heat and moisture. Make sure foods are not accessible to insects or animals.  Never store food directly on the ground or on concrete floors - moisture can build up inside containers.  Avoid such storage places that experience temperature build-up such as attics, garages or car trunks. Ideally, storage for Gourmet Reserves should not exceed room temperature for extended periods.  Store in a location that's accessible so that periodic inspections are easy. Rotate supplies.  Avoid excessive and rough handling of canned foods.		NOTE: Although it is possible that some beans, grains, and other types of food will store for long periods of time in ideal conditions, we feel it is inappropriate to promise or suggest shelf lives of any longer than 15 years. Mountain Oven: Flameless Heating Kit for Mountain House Pouches

This kit works like the MRE heaters we have sold for many years, but this is specially designed to heat Mountain House freeze dried foods that are packaged in pouches!

• The Mountain Oven Flameless Heating Kit is designed to heat any Mountain House pouch products.
• Heats Mountain House products in 20 minutes. No need for hot water to make a hot meal.
• Just add ambient temperature, potable (clean) water to Mountain House meals as usual, activate the Mountain Oven using the provided items with the kit, place the Mountain House pouch inside the oven and "the heat is on."
• The Mountain Oven heating process increases water temperature about 100° F.
• Be sure to follow / read the Mountain Oven instructions, and you will understand the procedure. The short version is that, when you use this kit, you don't need to have hot water to make a hot meal using our Mountain House pouch-style food! Very cool, check that, very HOT (to quote Paris Hilton)!
