John Shipe has been fronting his own project since 1996 when he left the semi-successful northern-rock band, The Renegade Saints, to pursue an idiosyncratic solo career.  (By "semi-successful," we mean that Shipe and the Saints toured two-thirds of the nation for half a decade, selling several thousand copies of their CD, and sharing the stage with the likes of Bob Dylan, Hootie & The Blowfish, Los Lobos, Rusted Root, Cake, Blind Melon,  Jimmy Cliff, and the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies.)

Since then, he's been gathering musicians around him to play in various Shipe Trios, Duos, Quartets, and Quintets.  He put out his first feature-length studio album in 1997, Sudden and Merciless Joy, a regional best seller.  At the turn of the millennium, he released A Stealthy Portion,  an acoustic unplugged album with a cello player, featured in the international magazine, Performing Songwriter.

Now comes Pollyanna Loves Cassandra, a creative extravaganza requiring the help of more than just a quartet or quintet.  Here's the John Shipe Band roster for the last year:
