Q: How many #10 Cans fit in a box?
A: Six cans fit in a standard #10 can box which is 18.75" x 12.75" x 7.25".
Q: Can I order just one can of something?
A: Absolutely! We have no minimum order! Many customers order one can of this, and one can of that. If you plan to buy many total cans, you might want to adjust the total number of cans so it is divisible by 6. This way the cases are in identically sized boxes which makes it easy to stack and store the boxes. We are happy to ship odd numbers of cans though. Your boxes may not stack quite as neatly.

Q: What is the difference between what is called a #10 and a #2-1/2 size can?

A: Shown in this photo is a #10 can on the left, and a #2-1/2 (also called a #2.5 can) on the right.

The large size can, called a #10, is about the size of a 1 gallon paint can. Its the most widely used size for delivering large amounts of product to food service users, like restaurants. If you have ever been to a Costco warehouse and have seen a massively huge can of Tomatoes, that is a #10 can. The smaller can in the photo is basically 1/4 the size of the #10 can. The industry calls it a #2-1/2 can size. It is larger than most cans you find at your local super market.

Q: What is the shelf life of Gourmet Reserves preparedness foods? A: It is impossible to give a definitive answer without knowing how the foods are stored and in what containers. Extended shelf life is primarily affected by oxygen, fat, moisture, heat and time - the lower the values the better. Excessive quantities of these elements will cause loss of nutritional value, off flavors, odors, and rancidity. Handling and physical damage must also be kept to a minimum. Damage to can seams and excessive rust must be avoided. Gourmet Reserves products are sealed in heavy gauge metal cans with an oxygen absorber added. Be sure to observe storage tips for best results. Provided that proper storage procedures have been followed, we can offer general guidelines as to the shelf life expectations of Gourmet Reserves foods. Once the foods leave our warehouse we have no control over storage conditions. So please be conscientious and avoid high heat - the cooler the better (without freezing). Instead of using larger containers (like #10 cans), which when opened must be used within a short period of time, each 4-serving entree is packaged in its own separate mylar pouch, thus eliminating waste.  Wise Company takes it a step further by placing the 4-serving pouches into sealed, compact, 4-gallon, square buckets that are very easy to stack and store, and take up less space than other long-term food storage systems. The sealed buckets are also waterproof, light proof, and rodent proof to ensure the food is protected.If you are placed in an emergency situation, these buckets can also be used for a variety of other things such as digging or even disposing of waste. All of these entree-only meals are healthy, vegetarian-based, and most importantly easy to prepare and serve. These products are all vegetarian, made with TVP (textured vegetable protein). Mountain Oven: Flameless Heating Kit for Mountain House Pouches

This kit works like the MRE heaters we have sold for many years, but this is specially - designed to heat Mountain House freeze dried foods that are packaged in pouches!

• The Mountain Oven Flameless Heating Kit is designed to heat any Mountain House pouch product.
• Heats Mountain House products in 20 minutes.
• Just add ambient temperature, potable (clean) water to Mountain House meals as usual, activate the Mountain Oven using the provided items with the kit, place the Mountain House pouch inside the oven and "the heat is on."
• The Mountain Oven heating process increases water temperature to about 100° F.
• Be sure to follow / read the Mountain Oven instructions, and you will understand the procedure. The short version is that, when you use this kit, you don't need to have hot water to make a hot meal using our Mountain House pouch-style food! Very cool, check that, very HOT (to quote Paris Hilton)!

So, order your kit here, and as an option you can order replacement MRE style pads. Be aware, the replacement pads will have instructions on them that discuss use for heating MRE's. Ignore that, just follow the instructions for filling water to the right level, and put the activated pad (complete with outer bag) inside the Mountain Oven and put your meal inside the oven. There will not be instructions for how to use the replacement MRE style pads with your kit, but you will get how the process works the first time you use the oven.
